The Lynx were in the grand final last season and faced off in physical match that offered basketball enthusiasts the opportunity to see two of the WNBL’s most competitive teams do battle.
At half time the Lynx lead 46-28.
Sydney uni Flames general manager Karen Dalton said the team had an ordinary first half.
“I think what’s disappointing at the moment is our rebounding and our turnovers. If you don’t have the ball you cant score so I don’t think our head coach will be very impressed with the current score,” she said.
Dalton said the team needed to work harder to take the lead in the second half.
“We need to tidy up the turnovers and the rebounds in the second half and we will be in with a better shot.”
In the third quarter the Flames were able to narrow the Lynx lead to ten points with a 41-51 score. Play was physical and the Flames showed no signs of giving up. With three minutes to go the score was a close 67-75.
But it wasn’t meant to be for the Flames who were defeated by the Lynx 85-69. Sydney Uni Flames head coach Cheryl Chambers said it was great to have a hit out with Perth to see where the team was at.
“We were pretty ordinary in the first half, I was happy with parts of it but not the whole lot. But that’s what the pre-season is about, trying to find where those wrinkles are and ironing them out,” she said.

Chambers said Belinda Snell and Jennifer Hamson stood up for the team in the pre-season clash.
“They were the definite standouts of the night and I don’t think we had enough people chipping in and helping them,” she said.
The Flames fought hard in the second half but Chambers said the match identified the team’s weak points.
”Rebounding is something we definitely to work on and our split line defence was hot and cold all night. So we need more work in the effort areas which is disappointing because you always want the effort areas to be your best.”
Perth Lynx head coach Andy Stewart said the match was a good opportunity for the team to work out what they need to work on.
“The whole idea with the pre-season games is working out what needs to be worked on.We will watch the video tonight and make adjustments for the upcoming games,” he said.
Stewart said every player contributed well in the match.
“At half time we didn’t have anyone in double figures, so from a scoring point of view no one stood out but I’m really pleased with the girls. We were experimenting with some new play and its good to see them get a good hit out with Sydney.”
