‘Drink and Draw – life drawing’ is a new initiative by Ten Thousand Paces owner and photographer Hamish Ta-mé.
Hamish said the human body was one of the most enduring subjects for most art forms, and that many artists consider the mastery of drawing an “absolute foundation” for their craft, so he decided to hold the sessions in his gallery.
“I personally am pretty bad at it but when I was at art school I enjoyed the challenge and the rare moments of success,” he said.
It is a pretty cool moment when you manage to lay down a line which captures that models posture, mood etc – it is an absolute challenge.
“I reckon it is one of those mindfulness things, a time when heart, hand and head have to come together for it to work.”
The sessions are held after hours in Ten Thousand Paces Gallery and is screened off for privacy.
There is space for 12 artists per session and absolute beginners to advanced artists are welcome.
Artists will need to bring their own materials for whichever art form they desire, except for photography.
The price is $12 per session, which includes a glass of wine from a Highlands vineyard.
Models are also needed for the sessions, and rates are $40 per hour. Contact Hamish at hamish@tenthousandpaces.com or 0428 294 569 for more information.
The sessions will be held the first Thursday of each month. The next session will be held October 6 from 5.45pm to 7.00pm.
