The project is a community solar bulk-buy program run by a social enterprise called SunCrowd.
Miles Lochhead and Andy Lemann, both with a long history of working and advocating for sustainable causes, will organise two SunCrowd launch events in the Highlands.
As a social enterprise SunCrowd helps communities run local bulk-buy campaigns to make rooftop solar and storage easy and affordable.
SunCrowd gathers local community members together to get the best pricing on supply and installation of solar and battery storage systems.
A portion of each sale will go to two community groups- the Moss Vale Community Gardens and Climate Action Now Wingecarribee.
SunCrowd already ran a trial event in Newcastle where 187 households signed up for the systems.
There will be two information events in the Highlands, one at Mittagong RSL on October 26 and one at Moss Vale Services Club on November 15, both starting at 6pm.
“Not only has SunCrowd done a lot of research into, and negotiated the most competitive pricing for the best available technologies and systems, they are also offering a significant financial benefit to local community groups that help organise and promote their events,” Mr Lemann said.
“There are a lot of questionable operators and systems out there looking to cash in on the end of the 60c FIT [feed-in- tariff]. We are working to ensure that people are well informed about their choices and not rushed into making poor purchasing decisions.”
The SunCrowd events will also provide information about switching retailers, meter changeovers and Energy Management Systems.
Among the technologies discussed with be the option to switch to a retailer who sells only renewable energy and can provide a free smart meter to new customers as well as an Energy Management System.
The Energy Management System will allow households with soalr and battery storage to trade energy on the grid.
