This was the challenge Gib Gate students worked on for their Term 3 project – to find an accomplished “noteworthy” Australian.
After a term of hard work and a lot of research, Year 6 students presented the Australians they thought deserved to be on a new banknote.
Gib Gate Year 6 teacher Katie Horan said the ‘legacy of the leaders’ unit of work was a regular for the school, but this year had been reinvigorated with the concept of currency to help students pick Australians “of note”.
“The aim of the unit is really to prepare the students for high school and equip them with the skills they’ll be using in secondary school,” Ms Horan said.
The students wrote biographies of their selected Australian personas, and kept process diaries, which required them to carefully select sources and carry out research.
A whole-school showcase allowed students to exhibit their projects to their fellow students and parents.
