"There's a giant lizard on the track... I'm not joking!" the 18-year-old Dutchman said into his helmet mic.
“Face to face with Godzilla then, mate?” the voice on the other end replied, not missing a beat.
Fortunately for Verstappen, it wasn’t a Japanese monstrosity, just a friendly monitor lizard that had lost its way.
And luckily for the lizard, he was able to calmly and safely cross the road after Verstappen had passed during the final free practice session of the Singapore Grand Prix.
Verstappen had earlier set the fastest time, but had slipped to third by the end of the second practice session.
Australia’s Daniel Ricciardo was in second.
