And Andrew Economos Custom Builder has proved a master in this field.
The company has been shortlisted for Best Cafe Design in the 2016 Eat Drink Design Awards.
These annual awards recognise excellence in interior design in both retail and hospitality across Australia and New Zealand.
Andrew Economos Custom Builder was nominated for the work done on the Highlands Merchant cafe which opened three months ago in Moss Vale.
Brielle Economos, who works with her husband and was the interior designer for the project said they were humbled to have made the cut.
She said they were in good company, with Dinner by Heston Blumenthal also up for an award this year.
Highlands Merchant was the only cafe in regional NSW to make the shortlist from hundreds of nominations.
Brielle said the nomination was also a great way to promote the Southern Highlands as a destination region.
“It’s gone from strength to strength in its retail and hospitality offerings. It’s such a destination now”
Highlands Merchant owner Lisa Wisken said when creating the cafe she wanted something new the Highlands had not seen before.
“Something clean lined without being cold and something we didn’t have already. We wanted to have really quality furniture and fittings which I think shows through,” she said.
“The locals love it and there’s lots of tourist action on the weekends.”
The awards will be presented in November and Brielle said they had no expectations.
“I think there’s such goos compwtition, we’re just happy to have made it to this point.
“We’re very excited and we just really enjoyed doing the job and working with the Wisken family to create something they were really happy with and proud of.”
