He said his team hoped to lessen environmental impacts of waste management services, create more training opportunities for local youth and relieve peak hour traffic congestion in shire CBDs.
Cr McLaughlin also mentioned a focus on ensuring council zoning provided more affordable housing, and building a new animal shelter.
“We stand for building a better council, one that operates in an ethical, business-like way, through co-operative, responsible leadership,” he said.
He said his team wanted to preserve the shire’s heritage and environment, while delivering community services for all residents.
Cr McLaughlin’s diverse team comprises Paul Williams, David Kent, Dr Michael Bowern, and Margaret Higgins.
Paul Williams came to the Southern Highlands with his wife and three children almost 20 years ago. Head English teacher at Bowral High School, Mr Williams is also president of the Southern Highlands Teachers Association. “Paul will bring to council his commitment to public service and integrity in order to ensure that all residents have a voice and that the interests of the many outweigh the self-interest of the few,” Cr McLaughlin said.
David Kent is active in local sport, currently works in new technology and is committed to bringing a fresh outlook to council and ensuring issues are looked at in the best interests of the broad community.
Michael Bowern lives in Moss Vale and is a highly qualified engineer and quality manager in the IT industry. “Mike has a strong environmental ethic and as a councillor would concentrate on sustainability initiatives such as advanced systems of recycling of electronic equipment,” Cr McLaughlin said.
Margaret Higgins, a long-time Moss Vale resident, is a retired professional with a keen interest in local issues who aims to contribute to a council that promotes good management and development that fosters sustainable growth.
The council election will be held on September 10.
