The Moss Vale Rodeo Association president Kevin Tangye presented a $10,000 cheque to Jo Pearson from the Southern Highlands Private Hospital, where the cancer centre is located.
The money was raised at the association’s last rodeo and Mr Tangye said they had chosen to support the cancer centre due to the relationship some members had with the centre.
“On a personal level I’ve spent a bit of time over there and the girls are just absolutely fantastic,” he said.
“They always help you out as much as they can.”
Ms Pearson said the money would go to into the trust fund, which would go towards patient care and equipment.
“It all stays local therefore there’s less strain on the local families and patients which is really important,” she said.
“We try and keep it as family orientated as possible so the patients get the best care and therefore negates some of the potential side effects.”
The Southern Highlands Cancer Centre treats patients that have been diagnosed with cancer but also treat people with a chronic illness.
Ms Pearson said all patients could be treated there whether they were insured or uninsured,
“It’s quite a happy atmosphere which sounds a bit odd but it’s very supportive, You don’t get the image of people sitting in a corner being morose,” Ms Pearson said.
“We’re very honoured to look after the patients and on behalf of the patients we’re extremely grateful.”
Mr Tangye said a rodeo would be held in Moss Vale this December.
Since the Moss Vale rodeo first started back up again in 2013, there have been two held, with one cancelled due to wet weather.
Mr Tangye said he would not be organising this year’s rodeo but would still be on hand to help out at the event.
The Southern Highlands Cancer Centre has been located within oncology unit the private hospital since 2008 and has been in the Wingecarribee area since 1989.
