This is a decision many homeless women have to face each month.
‘Share the Dignity’ is a not-for-profit charity that provides homeless and at risk women with access to sanitary items.
Founder Rochelle Courtney said she started the charity because “access to sanitary items is a right not a privilege”.
“This appeal provides a necessity for women, giving them back their dignity at a time when they need it most,” she said.
Gloria Rozario and Kate Clews both volunteer for the charity, collecting pads and tampons for those in need.
Mrs Clews said she hoped to have collection baskets in most Highlands stores.
“Women who are homeless and in shelters, some who have been in domestic violence situations, are left with nothing,” she said.
Ms Rozario said there were currently nine business collection points in the Highlands.
“We will be collecting all the donations from the drop-off points, sorting them and delivering them to local charities and homes with women in need,” she said.
The current businesses where you can drop off donations are:
- Elysian Massage, 2/35-41 Watson Road, Moss Vale
- Ashcroft’s SUPA IGA, 11-13 Clarence Street, Moss Vale
- Australian Hearing, 8/44-48 Bowral Street, Bowral
- Cruiseabout, 286 Bong Bong Street, Bowral
- Tammie Ash Exclusive Hair and Beauty, 2/2 Queen Street, Mittagong
- Siva Beauty Body and Soul, 7/60 Bowral Road, Mittagong
- CrossFit Southern Highlands, 8/6 Cavendish Street, Mittagong
- Bundanoon Cutting Cottage, 1 Church Street, Bundanoon
- Jennifer Duncan Personal Training, at all her classes and PT sessions
The collection of pads and tampons will continue through August, and donations are also welcome.
