Highlands fire fighters worked to extinguish a blaze in a four-wheel drive vehicle on the highway at about 11.40am.
Berrima, Moss Vale and Wingello Rural Fire Service (RFS) brigades received assistance from NSW Fire and Rescue personnel.
RFS district services co-ordinator Neale Ray said it took fire fighters about an hour to contain the blaze.
Mr Raye said no one was hurt in the incident.
“The fire also burnt out a small area of grass land,” he said.
“We are not sure what caused the fire.”
Mr Ray said it had been otherwise been a quiet period for local RFS personnel.
However, the NSW RFS reminds residents to remain vigilant about fire safety on their property.
The RFS offers the following tips for basic maintenance at home:
* Clean your gutters of leaves and twigs
* Install metal gutter guards
* Repair damaged or missing tiles on the roof
* Install fine metal mesh screens on windows and doors
* Fit seals around doors and windows to eliminate gaps
* Enclose the areas under the house
* Repair or cover gaps in external walls
* Attach a fire sprinkler system to gutters
* Keep lawns short and gardens well maintained
* Cut back trees and shrubs overhanging buildings
* Clean up fallen leaves, twigs and debris around the property
* Have hoses long enough to reach around your house
