PREPARATIONS are underway for a new radio control car race track in Yerrinbool.
The Southern Highlands Off Road Radio Control Car Club is ready to build the facility.
Council granted the club land at the end of last year to build the track at the Yerrinbool sportsground.
The club also received a $500 start up grant from council that helped cover insurance.
The club formed about two years ago and president Scott Hogan said they hoped to have a basic set up ready in the next few months.
Club secretary David Matthews said they would need close to $30,000 to construct a "really good facility".
"We've formed a committee and now [we need] some people who can volunteer to help us draw up some plans to submit to council so we can get approval to build a drivers' stand and track," he said.
Matthews said the drivers stand would consist of a wooden/steel structure a couple of metres high with stairs so drivers see down onto the track.
The club will need a few thousand dollars to get the project started.
He said they would then need to mow in a track and roll it.
There would be the further expenses of electricity and for proper clay for a race track.
