This year, communities are being urged to 'Go Wild!' for World Environment Week, June 5-11.
A range of free events have been organised, giving wild things the chance to get into nature.
Council's environmental projects officer Joe Stammers said an activity had been organised for "almost every day of the week".
"This is an opportunity to get involved and do something for the environment at a local level," he said.
"We've got a lot of biodiversity in the Southern Highlands, in terms of bushland and threatened species, and we face threats from climate change, clearing and human intervention impacts on wildlife."
Mr Stammers said if people were unable to attend any events, they should still "get outdoors to explore and experience".
"We live in a beautiful place, so people should get out and show their kids what's happening in the area," he said.
