SOUTHERN Branch played its first Highlands home game on Sunday against St George.
In the under-9s match St George finished with a 5-4 win over Southern.
Southern coach Alex Prophet said his side's ball movement was good in the first half and created plenty of chances.
St George led 3-0 at the break before Southern fought back in the second half.
"It was good to see Patrick Burke finish his chance in the second half. Paddy was on the end of a great move which involved Alessandro Brisa , Jamie Hilliard and Rohan Day," Prophet said.
The under-10s managed an impressive display against the visitors.
From the outset, St George set themselves no boundaries on getting a result, led determinedly by a four man bench.
Coach Craig Ash said each player did their job well, with Bayley Cash strong at the back and well supported by Kynan Denford and the improving George Lewis.
"Mid field had signs of a state of origin but Fred Ash, Oscar Lambie and Josh Davison gave as good as they got and never relinquished control," Ash said.
In attack, the hard work from behind helped create several opportunities for Alfred Jensen, Jimmy Smith and Rowan Davies.
Ash said Josh Stone worked tirelessly and Aaron Hage in goal did his work professionally.
The late second half dominance proved, fruitful creating more chances and eventually a well earned goal from a Freddie Ash free kick.
The under-11s came up against a good St George team in the first home game of the season.
Coach Chris Cash said everyone was back on deck this week.
"We knew combinations, trust and fitness may play against us, however it didn't take the team long to get back into the groove," he said.
"As a team they stuck together and produced some great football."
With the wind behind Southern in the second half the team made more options.
However, the St George goalkeeper was on his toes at all times.
Harry Black manage to find the back of the net in a sensational goal from out wide."
The under-12 Southern White team was competitive for the majority of its game.
A lapse in concentration early in the second half proved costly and the majority of the St George goals came during this time.
Coach Karl Batshon said a highlight of the game was a good period of possession football for Southern with several quality passes beginning in the backs, moving through the midfield into the forwards.
This resulted in Henry Connell putting away a good goal.
"The transition from defence to attack was excellent and the movement of the ball was a perfect example of what quality football is all about," he said.
