Pastor David Shrimpton, the current Flying Padre in Broken Hill, dropped in to tell members what their contributions help him achieve.
"The role is mainly chaplaincy, just catching up and sharing life on the properties," he said.
He has covered an area of approximately 200,000 square kilometres since 2013, and has conducted baptisms, christenings, weddings and funerals.
Pastor Shrimpton said catching up with people in these remote areas was extremely important for their wellbeing.
"Might be their first visit in a week, or two weeks, or even a month," he said.
"Broken Hill is a great place to be. Yes, it's got its issues ... but there are some great people, people who are doing it quite tough out in the bush.
"Quite often just mum and dad and a couple of kids, or just an elderly couple looking after the place in case the kids decide they want to manage the place later."
Pastor Shrimpton also flew his 1974 Cessan 182 plane to prisons and police stations, and has acted as Chaplain for many small schools in the area.
"One I visit is The School in the Paddock, near Ivanhone ... just this five-acre block, and I go out there and do Christian education with them," Pastor Shrimpton said.
Reverend Michael Earl said the Church chose to fundraise for the Flying Padre because many of the members of the congregation have spent time in the outback.
"We have lots of connections in rural communities, so many who know of the Flying Padre have a lot of affinity with this kind of work," he said.
"We're really pleased David could come and share his experiences and journey with us, and what it means to be the Flying Padre," he said.
Money raised by the church will be used to cover the Flying Padre's costs, which include: $40 for sparkplug replacement; $100 for 50 litres of avgas (or one hour of flying time); $200 for oil filter and oil change, which Pastor Shrimpton must perform for every 50-flying hours; $500 to replace two tyres and two tubes; $1000 for ten hours flying time; and $5000 for one 100-hourly plane service.
