With a high youth unemployment rate, young people have to work hard to secure work in their chosen careers.
For some industries, more than one unpaid internship is a minimum requirement.
With the technological shift underway and automating future careers, youth are rethinking their career paths and studying for jobs that haven't been invented yet.
Members of many industries are set to utilise robotics and this will create new jobs for humans.
Instead of letting it stop them, youth are taking the future into their own hands.
Bowral cricketer Lauren Cheatle is a good example of a young person looking towards the future. Lauren has recently competed in India with the Australian women's team at the Twenty20 competition.
At the same time, she is currently finishing high school.
Local band Eklypse is another good example. Members of the band have toured tirelessly around regional NSW in pubs and clubs to make a name for themselves.
The group has competed for attention from crowds against other entertainment options such as television and the internet. This has paid off as front man Angus Murray recently won the inaugural Moss Vale Buskers Battle at the Moss Vale Show.
He will perform at Bradman Oval on Wednesday, April 13 as a part of the Plugged concert for Youth Week.
The theme of this year's Youth Week is 'It starts with us' which calls on young people to get out and get involved with their community. Activities for Youth Week will include a launch, skate competition, a music concert and safer driver course.
There will also be an opportunity for young people to get involved with council and local service organisations. This will be yet another way youth will test their skills and showcase their various talents. For more information on Youth Week events, see page 5.
