Dr Wright has become a member in the general division of the Order of Australia (AM). He has been recognised for significant service to science and engineering. He was particularly acknowledged for his work in renewable energy technology and to professional organisations.
Dr Wright has been committed to his field for more than 30 years, which included a long stint at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).
His list of achievements include being principal author for the CSIRO's Home Energy Savings Handbook in 2009. Dr Wright helped establish the CSIRO energy centre in Newcastle before he left the organisation.
He moved to the Highlands with his wife Jo in 2010 to set up Wright Energy Consulting in Bowral.
Dr Wright said it was a "welcome shock" to receive an AM.
"I'm delighted to receive it," he said. "I was recognised for a whole lot of work undertaken by a lot of people over the years."
Dr Wright said his work aimed to establish clean and affordable energy in the future.
"We aim to introduce alternative energy opportunities into the mix," he said.
