BOWRAL'S Lauren Cheatle has starred in her first outing for the Sydney Thunder.
Lauren, 17, was the standout bowler in the Thunder's opening game in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) on Sunday.
The WBBL is the newest Twenty20 cricket competition in Australia for women's cricketers.
Lauren finished with figures of 4/20 from four overs to lead the Thunder to a big win over rivals Sydney Sixers at Howell Oval, Penrith.
The left-arm quick dismissed Sara Hungerford (four runs), Sara McGlashan (eight), Sarah Aley (two) and Angela Reakes (two).
Her performance helped restrict the Sixers to a total of 9/101 from 20 overs.
In reply, Stafanie Taylor (59no) and Alex Blackwell (29no) shone as the Thunder recorded victory with nine wickets to spare.
Lauren's parents Sandy and Giles Cheatle attended Sunday's game to cheer on their daughter.
Sandy said Lauren made a big impression in her first match.
"It was pretty amazing in the Big Bash, she kept it tight too when the run rate is important," Sandy said.
"The Sixers had some big time players, like [international cricketers] Alyssa Healy and Ellyse Perry."
Sandy said she caught up with her daughter after Sunday's match.
"Lauren was pretty happy after the game," she said.
"She was even asked to sign autographs by some kids."
Sunday's match came on the back of Lauren representing the NSW Breakers in the Women's National Cricket League final against South Australia Scorpions.
NSW had been the dominant team in the 50-over cricket competition during the 2015/16 season.
However, South Australia proved too strong in the final, winning by 54 runs.
The Scorpions batted first and compiled 7/264.
Lauren was the standout NSW bowler, taking 2/44 off 10 overs.
In reply, the Breakers were bowled out for 210, with Lauren scoring eight runs.
South Australia's win ended NSW's impressive streak in the WNCL competition.
The Breakers had won the previous 10 WNCL trophies.
