Firefighters have praised a quick-thinking woman for her handling of a car fire at Unanderra.

The woman’s car combusted in a westbound lane of Five Islands Road, about 10.30am Tuesday.
The Mercury understands the blaze began under the bonnet and the car was well alight by the time Fire and Rescue NSW Unanderra crews responded.
On social media, Unanderra crew praised the “quick-thinking” woman for getting the car out of the path of moving traffic before she abandoned it.
“The driver of the car had great reaction in parking the car in the cross hatched area between the lanes,” a station spokesperson wrote.
“This quick thinking ensured traffic disruption was kept to a minimum.”
The fire occurred adjacent to the M1 southbound on-ramp.
Firefighters extinguished teh blaze using a first aid reel.
