The Wollondilly/Wingecarribee Bushfire Management Committee has released a draft of its bushfire risk management plan.
This plan will provide a strategic direction to the mitigation of bushfire risk, which will be utilised by various agencies in the development and implementation of their fire management strategies.
Rural Fire Service (RFS) Southern Highlands executive officer, Superintendent Martin Surrey, said residents in bushfire prone areas were encouraged to view the draft plan and understand how it might affect them and their community.
"This plan will define where government agencies such as councils, RFS, National Parks and Wildlife, Forests Corporation and the Department of Primary Industries- Lands, prioritise their work to mitigate bushfire hazards over the next several years."
Copies of the draft plan will be made available at the Wingecarribee Shire Council foyer to view. It can be downloaded and viewed online by visiting the council's website, www.wsc.nsw.gov.au.
A copy will also be available to view at the RFS Southern Highlands office in Priestly St, Mittagong.
Mr Surrey said community meetings would soon be held in various locations to enable the public the opportunity to speak with representatives from the bushfire management committee about the plan.
"The draft plan will also be exhibited for the legislated 42 days in early 2016 to give the public another final opportunity to look over the document before it is adopted," he said.
Written submissions will be received until December 10 by forwarding correspondence to the Executive Officer, Po Box 443, Picton 2571 or email
