The imposing gates of Berrima Gaol will be opened to the public for the second time in the facility's history this long weekend for Gaolbreak II.
Berrima Gaolbreak is an initiative by Berrima Rotary Club, which aims to share one of the town's most historic sites with the wider community.
Gaolbreak organiser and Berrima Rotary Club president Allen Cupitt said he and the team of volunteers involved in staging the event were very impressed with the community response to the event, which looked set to take place under a clear, blue sky.
"We've got a fantastic weather forecast with lovely warm weather, we've been very fortunate - that's always a risk when you organise something ahead of time," he said.
Several events planned for the special weekend have already had a very strong response.
"Dead Man Talking is going gangbusters, we had 200 seats and had to release another 100 seats and upgrade the sound system so people didn't miss out," he said.
"There's still a few seats left for the opera, so there's a lot of options for people who come by on the night and would like to see the show - they can grab a dinner in Berrima and make a real nice evening of it."
Allen said the Blues Behind Bars concert had drawn more than 100 people with bookings prior to the weekend.
"The great thing about that show is that artists have been popping out of the woodwork to perform at that, we had about 11 express an interest in being a part of it so it will be a big band with big sound," he said.
"Because it's a long weekend in Berrima we know there will be a lot of people coming through, we've already got hundreds of tickets sold for the tours through the Gaol and we're looking forward to many more."
All the proceeds from the Gaolbreak II event and all the volunteers' time will contribute toward improving people's lives in the area.
"Every cent we get is all pumped back in locally, and all the effort into the gardens and the appearance of Berrima Gaol is a positive for our community - that's what Rotary is all about," Allen said.
Berrima Gaol will be open from 9am each day this long weekend. For a full program of activities over the Gaolbreak II event, visit www.gaolbreak.org.au
