THE Robertson Spuds are one game away from a grand final berth.
The Spuds advanced to the Group 6 second division preliminary final with a solid victory over rivals Bundanoon Highlanders on Saturday.
Robertson got the jump early with two tries and pushed on for a 36-14 win at Sid Sharpe Memorial Oval, Oakdale.
The result means Robertson advances to a sudden-death preliminary final against Narellan White this Sunday, while it's season over for Bundanoon.
Spuds club president Doug Tilley said his side was played strong and disciplined rugby league on Saturday.
"Not much went wrong for us," he said.
"We only gave away four silly penalties, which led to Bundanoon's tries.
"We were well behaved and we stuck to our structure."
Tilley said forwards Jesse Streeter, Jesse Mauger and Matt Rolles laid an excellent platform for the Spuds.
He said other standouts were halves Jake Temporali and Aaron de Jager, hooker Steven Baines and interchange player Damien McMillan.
"We controlled the majority of the game and won the grind," Tilley said.
"The forwards did their job and made plenty of room for our outside backs."
The Highlanders headed into the game under strength due to several injury concerns.
However, coach Brian Martin said Robertson was a worthy winner on Saturday.
Martin said Bundanoon was well led by Anthony Phelps and Mat, Chris and Mitchell Conquest.
"We ran out of cattle and they had us covered all over the field," he said.
"Two early tries for them laid the platform.
"Robbo was too good for us."
Bundanoon bows out of the 2015 competition after successive losses in the finals series.
The Highlanders went down 26-10 to Mt Annan on August 22 before Saturday's defeat to Robertson.
Martin said it was ordinary to finish the season, but the club would bounce back in 2016.
