The Knights are the closest senior Australian rules football team in proximity to the Southern Highlands.
Saturday's game was close from the start.
The first quarter had the Knights only down by seven points.
There was hard-fought ball contesting all over the ground and kept supporters on the edge of their seats.
In an ugly game, the Goannas eventually held on for a three-point win to secure second place on the ladder.
The Goannas won 8.12 (60) to 8.9 (57).
Chad Fitzsimmons led the charge for Wollondilly with three goals.
Jason Haddock kicked two goals and Russell Andrews, Daniel Hockey and Ian Andrews booted one apiece.
Wollondilly's best players were Shaun Paget, Jade Purcell, Haddock, Hockey, Fitzsimmons and James Weston.
Wollondilly holds onto third spot to ensure it is in the finals again for the second year running.
