DANE Jensen stood up on the big stage to lead the Moss Vale Magic to victory on Sunday.
Jensen, 21, was named most valuable player (MVP) in the team's NSW Waratah Men's Division Two Youth League grand final.
The strong forward top scored with 25 points but also showed his versatility by playing a key role in defence.
Jensen was instrumental as the Magic recorded a 105-84 win over the Ryde Bulls at the Sutherland Basketball Stadium.
Jensen, Tyler Payne and Hayden Cook were charged with the role of defending against Ryde star Harrison Goodrich.
Goodrich, who has played basketball in the US, returned to Ryde late in the season and had dominated the division.
The 2m tall Goodrich's performance had included a 70-point effort in one game.
Magic coach Kev Campbell said Goodrich was a "beast" and was a key part of his team's game plan.
"We knew that if we kept him to less than 40 points, we were a chance of winning," Campbell said.
"Harrison scored 33 points and we also kept their other key player Jayden Krieg to 24 points on Sunday.
"We had a new defensive outfit and it worked beautifully."
Jensen was presented with the MVP award after the game.
He then capped off a big day by being named in the division two men's youth league All-Star Fives.
The top five players were determined by votes from the head coach and team captain of each team in the division.
Jensen was named alongside Hayden Krieg (Ryde), Adup Adup (Blacktown), Zachary Pitt (Manly Warringah) and Brandon Bates (St George Saints).
Magic team mates Nick Bizjak and Tyler Payne were unsuccessfully nominated.
Moss Vale's Isaac Martin was also nominated for the league's defensive player of the year award.
Campbell said Jensen was a standout for the Magic in 2015.
"Dane is such a popular guy at the club, he is unassuming," he said.
"He is a work horse and a fantastic guy."
Campbell said he hoped Jensen would remain at the club next season.
"This was Dane's last game in the youth league because he will be too old next year," he said.
"Other clubs have already expressed interest in him, but Dane said he wants to stay with the Magic."
