Last week I spoke about the inaugural Ice Forum in Goulburn, where we will talk about the impact this drug is having on our community, what to look for in family and friends, and where to find help if needed. It will involve plenty of information and some really good tips about how we can all play a part in managing things in our Community.

Ice is a nationwide problem, and the Hume LAC is not immune to its effects.
I'm sure it will be a huge success, and we are looking forward to bringing it to the Highlands in the near future. It's a great opportunity to show your support for our area and be part of a joint community offensive against this drug and its effects.
Despite the cold weather, it has been a busy week for the police in this command. We were left reeling after some really traumatic jobs in the area and are still putting a lot of time into supporting the police, and the families of people who are left behind after those tragedies.
On a more pleasant note, on Wednesday I had the pleasure of being present at the NSW Police Academy for the unveiling of the 'Nelson Sofa'. In the 1860's, Police Trooper Samuel Nelson was shot on duty when he challenged notorious bushrangers who were holding up Kimberley's Inn in Collector. Locals carried his body into the Inn and layed him on a sofa.
Over the years, the sofa was sold from the Inn and ended up with a local family who have just donated it to the NSWPF and it is now on display along with other historical items at the Academy.
It is a tangible link to our past, a physical reminder that the job the police do is still dangerous to this day, and a wonderful thing to have preserved now forever.
Your local cops continue to make great inroads in tackling local issues, and we have made some significant drug arrests in the area, along with several people 'hitting the dock' for property related offences. If there is one thing in particular that really gets my goat, it's thieves, so it's great to see some of them facing the courts in the near future.
As always during the school holidays, please keep your eyes on what is happening around you and give us a call if you see anything which is suspicious or not quite right. Unfortunately the holidays can sometimes lead to bored kids, and bored kids can sometimes lead to an increase in thefts and damage in town and around our schools while they are closed.
We are only too happy to respond to your calls and send a truck out to check things out, I would prefer to find nothing than to find a school damaged by graffiti or a window smashed somewhere.
Recently local spikes in crime continue to focus on smaller offences like thefts from motor vehicles. Unfortunately we are still finding that people continue to leave their cars unlocked.
I LOVE that we live in safe area; I agree that we SHOULD be able to leave cars unlocked and know that no one will touch them. However I KNOW that this is a thing of the past, and that petty criminals will take advantage of unlocked cars. Please don't become a victim of these crimes of opportunity.
That's about it this week, watch this space for details regarding the Ice Forum coming to your area. I'm looking forward to being part of this joint project with other local stakeholders.
