HIGHLANDS top young netballers were given a tough assignment last weekend.
The Southern Highlands Netball Association (SHNA) sent three teams to the 2015 Netball NSW State Age Championship.
SHNA was represented by the under-12s and under-13s in division two at Eastwood Ryde from Saturday to Monday.
The Highlands also had a under-14s team in division three at Penrith.
It was a tough outing for all three SHNA outfits.
The under-12s ended up 13th out of 17 sides and under-13s were 12th out of 17 teams.
The Highlands under-14s finished 16th in a 20-team strong competition.
SHNA competition co-ordinator Kate Bow said it was a big step up in play for the Highlanders.
"It was really hard and the championship is exhausting for the players," she said.
"The girls played consistently tough games.
"The matches are set up as 12-minute halves so it's a bit shorter than what they usually play, but it's so intense.
"We don't get that type of competition in our regular Saturday comp."
Bow said the championship was a good learning curve for the players.
"We're really happy, particularly with our under-12s in division two," she said.
"It's a step up and we were up against other associations with much bigger depth."
SHNA will start trial selections in October for the 2016 State Age Championship teams.
