I NOTE with some amusement the plaintive missive from former Mayor Cr Arkwright about the large number of Code of Conduct complaints and the reasons for them while she was mayor.

She makes mention of the attempts to get Duncan Gair elected as mayor and also about belonging to the 'one of them group'
Cr Arkwright seems to have a very selective memory as had the elected councillors taken heed of the electorates' wishes at the last council elections Duncan Gair; from a sheer popular vote perspective; should have been elected mayor from the outset.
It was the splitting of the council into two factional groups that resulted in Cr Arkwright and Cr Whipper (the two that received the lowest number of personal votes at the last election) being elected Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
They then belonged to what was commonly referred to as the 'Fabulous Five' group.
It was only when one of the members of that group (Cr Campbell) determined that the interests of the community were much more important than maintaining party political lines that the 'Fabulous Five' became the 'Frustrated Four' and hence a new and popular mayor was elected in September 2014.
Suffice to say the number of complaints has dropped to almost zero although Cr Campbell may yet be bought to task by the Liberal Party for her stance. She should be commended for that stance however.
If I may be so bold I would suggest to Cr Arkwright that the primary reason for all the complaints was more about her (and her deputy) being unable to provide any sort of leadership at the council level.
