THE other day I read a letter dripping with unfortunately mis-founded contempt for a company operating in the Wingecarribee and investing significant amounts of time and money into both our economy and local community, (Michael Breen, SHN 18/05/2015).

Most of the issues in this letter would take far too long to write about, so I’ll cut straight to the final point of the letter.
Mr Breen writes, “Will they (Hume Coal) publish a list of groups accepting grants so that we can boycott them?”
May I humbly point out that if one visits the front page of Hume Coal’s website, they openly and proudly list some of the organisations which they generously support.
The groups listed there are just a few of those supported by Hume Coal.
A number of other organisations have also received grants over the years, and these are often mentioned in Hume Coal’s newsletters, (also accessible on their website).
Should one read up on this, I suggest that one might take a second thought on rashly boycotting our own organisations and community.
Take our own home town of Robertson for example.
I find it disappointing that a number of us in the community of the Wingecarribee have such a closed mind to Hume Coal, especially when they attack Hume Coal without first researching their facts.
