THE Greater Southern under-16s and under-18s Redbacks played the Western Rams in annual trial matches at Warrimoo Oval.
The two Redbacks squads featured junior players from the Group 6 region.
The matches were hosted by the Lower Mountains Rugby League Football Club.
The trial was an important part of the Redbacks' preparation before heading into the Country Championships in Muswellbrook in June.
These contests are always a hard match.
The Redbacks were up against some good players who might have already been signed by a NRL club, but hadn't played Harold Mathews or SG Ball for the club.
This allows these players to be able to play in the CRL Championships.
The Redbacks under-16s boys played well but fell to the Rams by 28-4.
The under-18s had an even harder time against the well-drilled under-18s Rams.
The Rams recorded a 40-6 victory.
The results highlighted some work that both Redbacks squads need to attend to before the teams play again in June.
