The Lions met the Newcastle Cobras in round six of the NSW State Tenpin Bowling League.
The STBL match was held at at the SuperStrike Mayfield centre.
The Highlands side had experienced a heavy loss to the Orange Warriors two weeks ago in its first away game.
The Lions combination was looking for an improved performance against Newcastle.
But with 114 points on offer, the Lions went down 85-29.
Highlands lost 27-9 in singles, 30-8 in doubles and 24-12 in the triples.
Coach Luke Hannon said he was disappointed with the loss.
However, he said he remained positive that the team competed and made its opponent work for every point.
"We played well in patches, we just need to be more consistent through the day," Hannon said.
"We would have a good round and get points, followed by another round and get nothing.
"But we would still bowl well without getting the result.
"That's where the game starts getting away from us."
Hannon said a lot of venues in the NSW league were "quite foreign" for the Highlands bowlers.
"It is a learning curve for the team knowing how to play the away centres' lanes and what equipment to use," he said.
Standout performer for the Lions team was John Velo who had the highest average with 206 points.
Hannon had the highest pin-fall over the 11 games and won the most points for the team with seven, while Jason Tinker rolled the highest game with a 260.
The Highlands team's next NSW STBL fixture be against the Gosford Tornadoes at Gosford Interbowl Centre on May 24.
