Yellowfin tuna have made a dramatic appearance with Big Game anglers reporting some spectacular catch and release action off the continental shelf, while commercial fishing boats have returned to Eden with full loads from 50km off Greencape.

Members of the Merimbula Big Game and Lakes Angling Club (MBGALAC) said the strong run of yellowfin had set the scene for the upcoming 35th annual Open Yellowfin tournament to be held on May 1-3.
The club is posting a $6000 first prize for the heaviest yellowfin caught “line class”.
There will also be 17 other major category prizes up for grabs.

In regular fishing news, members said fishing along the bottom had become difficult as species were a bit quiet after last week’s heavy rains and rough seas.
Catches of snapper and nannygai have come from North Head off Eden and Horseshoe Reef out of Merimbula.
Further north, flathead are on the bite at 22 fathoms off Tura Head and further north from Tathra some large flathead are to be found off Bithrys Inlet at 15 fathoms.
Overall estury fishing remains quiet, though tailor remain prevalent in Merimbula Lake.
On the headlands and beaches, salmon and tailor are biting well.
Luderick remain active and respond to both artificial lures and green weed baits.
John McKay and Kris Larsen are scheduled to host at the Spencer Park Clubhouse on Friday from 6.30 pm.
