The rain at Central Tilba fell early and it was later in the morning that the real crowds started pouring down the hill from the paddock car parks and off the Symons buses.
By lunchtime, there were long lines at all the many and varied food stalls.
The rain didn’t discourage all the funs events such as the boot and egg tosses and cheese rolling, while there were three stages featuring all kinds of music.
Milo the clown and town criers Andy “Dandy” Ford and Arthur “Arty Party” Gatley were in fine form and this year were joined by Fairy Rose from her fairy garden at Tura Beach.
Light drizzle fell for the parade from the ABC Cheese Factory to The Dromedary Hotel for the official opening by Eurobodalla mayor Lindsay Brown.
Donna Campbell from Wallaga Lake Koori Village did the Welcome to Country.
Mayor Brown congratulated a great team of festival volunteers led by Sally Pryor and, given the rain, urged the crowd to dig deep and support the stallholders.
The festival last year raised around $13,000 for the Tilba community.
“Tilba is a great community with lots of wonderful people and it shows every time you visit,” he said.
The hit television show River Cottage Australia is filmed just up the Tilba Punkalla Road and continues to draw visitors to the district, including a number attending the festival.
Host Paul West and his trusty four-legged-friend Digger were on hand to sign the freshly launched River Cottage Australia Cookbook.
