For parents these days, it is a very costly exercise.
With the cost of show bags, tickets, show bags, food, rides, games and did I mention show bags, parents and even some very lucky grandparents end up spending hundreds of dollars for a day out.
The kids love the excitement of the rides, the games, the shows and the bright lights and of course opening up the show bags.
The parents, well at least my wife and I, prefer just sitting back and enjoy watching the kids have fun and do all there is to do at the Easter show.
What is often forgotten with the show, is everything else that the show brings.
These elements of the Sydney Royal Easter Show are very important to the people in our communities.
The Royal Agricultural Society of NSW has been holding competitions almost continually since 1823.
These competitions, as you know, are the benchmark for a wide range of rural produce and skills, from alpacas to dogs, horses, rabbits, utes, flowers, arts, showgirls and wood chopping.
In the dairy show products which are judged include an extensive range of cheese, milk, butter, dip, dairy dessert, gelato and ice cream created from bovine milk as well as sheep, goat and buffalo milk. The list goes on and on, but importantly we need to remember that the Easter show is more than just rides and show bags.
It is an opportunity to showcase the work and livelihood of members of our community.
Good luck to all our community members who are entering the many shows and competitions that the Sydney Royal Easter Show has to offer.
Remember, not only do we have the Sydney Royal Easter Show, but we have many shows and events in our own backyard and even if your children are lucky enough to enjoy all the rides and entertainment at the big show, don't forget our own local events.
Until next week.
