THE Burradoo Polocrosse Club has kicked off its 70th birthday celebrations.
The club toasted the milestone by hosting a successful carnival on Saturday and Sunday at the Bong Bong Racecourse.
It is a special year for the Burradoo club, which the second polocrosse club to form in the world in 1945.
The original club was Ingleburn, which is now defunct.
Burradoo Polocrosse Club committee member Alina Gilpin said the two-day carnival was the ideal way to start celebrations.
More than 30 teams competed across eight grades at the event.
The competition was open for sub-juniors (under-12s) through to adults.
The carnival attracted players from across the Southern Highlands zone, which incorporates Moss Vale, Burradoo, Bungendore, Lake George, Yass, Euro Coast and Hall.
Burradoo had two standout teams on the weekend.
The Burradoo three team won the mixed B division, while the Burradoo four side finished runner-up in mixed C grade.
Off the field, highlights included a reunion tent being set up for current and former Burradoo Polocrosse Club members.
Gilpin said it was a great weekend.
"We had really good support and beautiful weather," she said.
"There was a great standard of play and it was a great way to start our birthday celebrations."
