The English-style park and garden was established in 1887 by Samuel Hordern and will be open this weekend for public viewing.
Head gardener Rick Shepherd said significant features of the garden included especially designed 'garden rooms'.
"They are hedged gardens with different styles of gardens in each 'room'," Rick said.
One such room is a minimalist space, designed by Melbourne landscape architect David Wilkinson.
"David Wilkinson designed the 'Green Room,' while we also have a space called the 'Laurel Lawn' which is on the old tennis court."
"The 'Persian Carpet' is a red herbaceous border that features dahlias and silvery plants like lambs ears."
As well as a range of mature trees, shrubs and hedges, the garden features a vast collection of sculptures.
"There are lovely old trees including oaks and conifers and one bunya tree, which is a type of conifer that has large seed pods."
"One of the main attractions this weekend will be the sculpture walk," he said.
"We've designed a route for people to walk so that they can see all of the sculptures - we'll have flyers with information about the sculptures, the materials used and the artists."
The sculptures date from the 1840s to 2014 so there is something to suit all appreciators of sculpted works.
The open garden will be a great attraction for horticulture lovers and families alike, with a range of animals on the grounds.
"We have donkeys, parrots in the aviaries and three six-month-old emus - they're cute as anything," Rick said.
"The heritage aspects of the grounds will also be very interesting for people to see, as well as the gardens."
Catering will be provided by the ladies from the CWA who will serve tea and scones from a pop-up style cafe on the verandah of the Retford Park house.
The open gardens will take place at 1325 Old South Road, Bowral from 10am to 4pm this Saturday, March 28 and Sunday, March 29. Admission is $10, while under 18s may enter for free.
