ROBERTSON'S first grade ladies hockey side extracted some revenge on Sunday.
Last year's grand finalist recorded a 2-1 victory over reigning premier Mittagong at Welby.
However, Robertson coach Darren Airey wasn't totally pleased with his team's performance.
"It was a bit scratchy to start with and there is plenty of improvement to be had," he said.
Conversely, Mittagong first grade coach Kylie Bishop was happy with her side's effort.
"I am really happy with the team and I'm excited about this year.
"They played really well and I'm proud of them all," she said.
The other first grade ladies game was also decided by one goal.
A late goal by Bianca Schofield secured a 2-1 victory for the Burrawang Revels against Bowral.
Burrawang captain Marlie Gulson said it was a tough game.
She said her team's standouts included Peggy Schofield, Jodi, Georgie and Renee Eccleston.
"It was a good start for Burrawang's season," she said.
"Both sides were out on their feet by the end, but our girls dug deep and showed a never-say-die attitude."
Bowral coach Darren Roberts said his team was left to rue a slow start.
"In the first half ,we didn't play that well and turned over too much ball," he said.
"In the second half, the girls shortened up at times, but were also scrappy.
"We were energetic in patches, but there was some lazy defence when we turned the ball over."
Roberts said Bowral had several new players, including goalkeeper Megan Drapalski, Rebecca and Katie Lewis and Nikki Linolli.
He said he hoped to see an improved effort by the team this weekend.
In second grade, the Bowral Wallabies, Mittagong Tigers and Robertson recorded wins.
The Wallabies beat Moss Vale 3-0, Mittagong secured a 5-0 win over Burrawang and Robertson recorded a 2-1 victory.
In third grade, the Bowral Possums beat Burrawang 5-0.
The Bowral Penguins defeated Robertson 1-0 and Moss Vale won 2-0 against Mittagong Cheetahs.
