The incident is believed to be linked to a job 24 hours earlier in the Camden Local Area Command (LAC) as the man, vehicle and offence are similarly described.
At 10pm on Tuesday, March 3, a woman was driving her vehicle on Mount Hercules Road, Razorback, when she reported to police a white sports wagon was parked on the side of the road with red and blue flashing lights.
A man has reportedly run onto the road, waving his arms and screaming at the 44-year-old to stop her car.
She drove around the man and called police, who conducted an immediate patrol of the area without success.
She attended Narellan Police Station and provided police with further information about the incident.
He was described to police as Caucasian in appearance, a skinny build, bald, wearing a white t-shirt, black cargo pants and was barefoot.
Anyone with information that could assist the investigation should contact police at Narellan Police Station on 4632 4499.
Tips for the public when they suspect a person is impersonating a police officer:
- Always ask for official police identification. A police officer's badge will have a coloured backing and have a separate photo identification card. If you have any concerns, contact the police station the officers belong to in order to verify their identity. Always source the phone number independently rather than calling a number provided by suspicious individuals. People can also call verified police phone numbers, such as the Police Assistance Line (131 444), Crime Stoppers (1800 333 000) or Triple Zero in case of an emergency.
- Any officers executing a search warrant should provide you with a copy of the warrant outlining all the details, including your rights. Search warrants will always be videotaped and an independent officer will be present. Any concerns should be directed towards the independent officer.
- Always look for the officer's arms and appointments. All officers should be in possession of a police radio.
- The incidents police are aware of involved unmarked vehicles.
- Incidents of people impersonating police officers are rare.
Police have urged anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au/.
Information you provide will be treated in the strictest of confidence. Police remind people they should not report crime information via the Facebook and Twitter pages.
