Council has invited women of all ages across the shire to attend the breakfast at Mittagong RSL and join in the global celebration.
Council's cultural development officer Jenny Kena said International Women's Day had been celebrated globally since 1911.
"It's an important day of recognition, a reason to gather with female friends and colleagues to relax and reflect upon the extraordinary economic, political and social achievements of women," Ms Kena said.
Each year, the United Nations celebrates International Women's Day with a different theme designed to provoke dialogue. The local theme for this year's event is 'Southern Highlands women caring across the world'.
As part of this year's celebrations, council has partnered with the Barbara May Foundation. Founded in the Southern Highlands, the Barbara May Foundation raises funds to assist the works of Valerie Browning AM and Dr Andrew Browning, with the aim of creating a sustainable maternal healthcare model in developing countries.
Examples of work being undertaken by the charity include the building of new healthcare facilities in Ethiopia and Tanzania and providing funding for the training of doctors and midwives to staff the centre.
Local writer Lucy Palmer, will MC the morning which will also feature a special performance by the Madrigal singers from Frensham.
The Southern Highlands International Women's Day Breakfast will be held on Friday, March 6 from 8am to 9.30am.
Tickets for the full buffet breakfast and function are $26 per person and are available from Mittagong RSL.
