Flix in the Stix, now in its fifth year, will come to Bong Bong Racecourse this Saturday, February 28 for the final leg of its Australian Tour.
New to the festival is this year's selection of short films, curated by award-winning actress Deborah Mailman.
Deborah was the first Aboriginal actress to win the Australian Film Institute Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role and is known for her roles in successful Australian drama series The Secret Life of Us and Offspring. Deborah said she was proud to be a part of Australian drama.
"I'm so proud of Australian drama and the many voices that create a vibrant tapestry of who we are," she said.
Deborah is no stranger to films either, having starred in Bran Nue Dae (2009) and The Sapphires (2012).
"I'm thrilled to be part of Flix in the Stix and to bring together some of my favourite short films, filled with artists I love and respect and stories that are a good yarn," she said. "What better way to enjoy a night out under the stars than with a feast of film, food and great entertainment."
Flix in the Stix co-founder and tour director Simon Rollin said Flix in the Stix was "over the moon" to have Deborah's support for 2015.
"She is one of Australia's most respected actresses, adored by many and a true professional.
"Being regionally born and raised, she resonates strongly with our audiences and I'm sure her input into our 2015 short film collection will be enjoyed by many."
Simon was also pleased to be once again bringing the Flix in the Stix tour to Bowral.
“We love bringing Flix to the Southern Highlands. We've always enjoyed strong support and the venue is unique in our mix of venues across the Tour.
"Bong Bong Racecourse is synonymous with good times and our event is fundamentally based on that premise. Flix is a chance to relax and unwind, catch up with friends & family and then enjoy a fabulous evening of entertainment. It’s our final stop of the 2015 Tour and we plan to finish off on a real high.”
Berlin Bangers, Red Belly Pizza and Coffee Culture will be on hand at the event providing food, although those attending are also welcome to bring their own picnic along.
Smoked and tangy Kransky and mild/classic Bratwurst will be available for $8, the Berliner Currywurst available for $9, while a 'mega banger' half metre chilli-cheese Kransky will fill hungrier stomachs at $12.
A range of gourmet wood-fired pizzas (with vegetarian option/gluten free bases) and tea and coffee will also be offered at the venue thanks to our local producers.
As well as short films, CommBank Flix in the Stix will showcase live music by ARIA winning artists My Friend the Chocolate Cake, and comedy from ARIA award winning threesome Tripod, who are keen to visit Bowral.
"Bowral is the final stop on the 2015 CommBank Flix in the Stix tour and we can't wait to perform at Bong Bong Racecourse," they said.
"We know it's been one of the favourite venues for the last four years.
"We've had such a blast being a part of the tour this year and plan on going out with a bang on Saturday so make sure you catch us there."
