Every time you turn around in the Highlands someone, somewhere is excelling.
This couldn't have been truer than on the weekend when several local theatre productions were nominated for Canberra Area Theatre (CAT) Awards.
Out of 21 nominations, Highlanders secured two wins with Michael Turczynski winning Best actor in a featured role for his portrayal of Manuel in Fawlty Towers and David Preston winning Best actor for his portrayal of Jack Worthing in The Importance of Being Earnest.
This may not sound like alot, however, the awards cover a large area including Canberra, Griffith, Wagga Wagga and Wollongong with more than 95 separate productions in the running across the different categories.
For two of our young actors to bring home awards, beating seasoned actors who have performed for more than a decade, is a phenomenal achievement.
This is even more impressive when you note that it was the first nomination for both Mr Turczynski and Mr Preston.
The Highlands is blessed to have a rich well of talent and it extends beyond the stage.
We have hatted chefs, athletes who have represented their country, novelists, artists and national champion apprentices, just to name a few, all of whom have dedicated and sacrificed to succeed.
Our paper is regularly full of success stories from every corner of the district, and upcoming issues will be no different with our food and wine businesses excelling in a wide range of competitions.
Two restaurants have been named in the state's top 500 restaurants, two wineries have been recognised in the International Wine Challenge Awards and three food producers have medaled at the Sydney Royal Food and Wine Show. It is exciting to see what's next for this region of high achievers.
