Eurobodalla events
Eurobodalla Shire Council is encouraging residents and visitors to join in and celebrate at the fun events that will be happening across Eurobodalla.
In the afternoon, you can attend Eurobodalla Shire Council’s Australia Day Awards Presentation and Citizenship ceremony at the RSL Hall in Page Street Moruya, starting at 2.30pm.
At the ceremony, over 20 local residents will become Australian citizens and the 2015 Eurobodalla Australia Day awards will be presented.
The Eurobodalla Australia Day awards include Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Sports Achievement of the Year, Community Event of the Year Award the Jeff Britten Award for the Pursuit of Excellence.
This year, instead of having one Australia Day ambassador for the Eurobodalla, there will be distinguished local representatives attending each awards ceremony.
Geoff Rose, Member of the Order of Australia and retired Royal Australian Navy officer and Tuross resident, will give a speech about what it means to him to be an Australian at council’s awards presentation and Citizenship Ceremony in Moruya.
Bermagui events
THIS Australia Day will see the launch of the 2015 Umbrellas of Bermagui, now in its second year.
Twenty local businesses have sponsored a 2.7 metre shade umbrella each of which has been hand decorated by 20 well-known artists.
Each sponsor and their artist have decided the decoration theme for their umbrella and no two will be the same!
The works of art will go on display for the first time between 11am and 3pm on Australia Day on the lawns in front of the Bermagui Country Club.
To add to the excitement of the launch, Mark Tonelli, Bega Valley Australia Day Ambassador, will attend from around 1.30pm.
Mark, a former Olympian who represented Australia in the pool on the international scene for seven years, is also a renowned journalist, TV host, elite coach and motivational speaker.
The Bermagui Surf Club meanwhile will host the art@bermi exhibition over the Australia Day long weekend.
Local artist Margaret Kenny-Levick has taken her very last turned work, an ash bowl, and decorated it in a way she claims has never been done before.
Margaret’s work along with that of the other artists in the art@bermi group will be on show at the Bermagui Surf Club from 10am to 4pm from Friday to Monday this long weekend.
