SATURDAY'S local derby in first grade proved to be a thriller.
Bowral secured a nail-biting one-wicket win over rival East Bowral at Bradman Oval.
Poor weather on the previous Saturday led to the two-day game being reduced to a 45-over contest.
East Bowral batted first and compiled 8/192.
Tom Ewen and Zac Moran scored more than 40, while debutant Joel Bourke mustered 34.
But East Bowral's middle order collapsed.
Only a late, unbeaten 40-run partnership between Josh Heyhorn and captain Tony Capps boosted the Blues to a competitive total.
The second innings saw Bowral's top order survive a hostile display of pace bowling from Aaron Jordan.
Jordan beat the edge of the bat on several occasions but remained wicketless on Saturday.
Bowral passed the total for the loss of nine wickets with four overs remaining.
Ian Macdonald was East Bowral's best bowler with 3/21.
Capps said it was a good game, but East Bowral paid dearly for leaking 26 wides.
"You can't bowl that many extras, it was also nearly an extra five overs in deliveries," he said.
"The game hinged on that."
East Bowral will search for its first win of 2014/15 when play resumes on Saturday, January 10.
However, Capps remained upbeat about his team's prospects for the remainder of the season.
"It was a pretty good game (on Saturday) and gives us a fair bit of belief," Capps said.
"I've noticed the young guys have become more vocal in the field.
"If everyone puts their hand up at the same time, there will be exciting times ahead for us."
