A SEMI-FINAL of the mixed pairs competition was held at Club Bowral on Sunday.
Jeanette Allen and Kevin Stafford record 21-18 win over Reta South and Reg Rodwell.
South and Rodwell were dominant in the first six ends and they led 7-3.
A spirited fightback had Allen and Stafford scored 14 shots in the next seven ends to go to a big lead.
Allen and Stafford got out to a 17-9 lead and the game appeared as good as over.
But this proved incorrect.
The game took a big turn when South and Rodwell produced their form from earlier in the game.
They took the lead 18-17 with two ends to play.
On the 20th end, Allen and Stafford scored two shots to lead 19-18 and set up a classic last end.
Allen drew the shot, then South did too.
The lead changed four times.
With one bowl to be played, South and Rodwell held shot.
With his last attempt, Stafford moved the bowl to pick up two shots and success came to Allen and Stafford.
But South and Rodwell will always remember the game that got away from them.
The mixed pairs final will see Jeanette Allen and Kevin Stafford up against Necina Lewis and Greg Lewis.
Another close game is expected, but the good form of Allen and Stafford will have them favourites to take out the title.
Fraser holds title
NOEL Fraser is the over-60s single champion at Club Bowral.
Last Wednesday, Fraser defeated Robin Staples 31-20 in the final.
The marker was men's bowling club president Brian Payne.
Staples gave Fraser too much of an advantage after an even start.
After six ends, the score was locked at 4-all.
A close game was expected, but a great display of draw bowls by Fraser had him shoot to a 15-6 lead after 12 ends.
Staples, the more favoured player to take the title, was forced to watch Fraser draw on the kitty time and time again.
With Staples facing defeat, he got down to a mini rally to close the gap to 22-14 after 22 ends.
But over the next few ends, Fraser struck again when he was three down, he drew a great touching bowl to claim the end.
Fraser ran out the winner by 11 shots to take the championship in a brilliant display of bowls.
The win by Fraser was a boost for the coaching staff.
Fraser is on the green every week for practise.
He has only been playing bowls for close to two years.
Handicap pairs
THE final of the handicap pairs will be played at Bowral this Saturday at 1pm.
The team of Dean Anderson and Greg Lewis will be up against Don Coleman and Bruce Clynes.
