THE Highlands has played a role in new world-first sporting mobile app.
GiiUP promises to reinvigorate Australia's horse racing industry and introduce the visual thrill of a day at the races to a field of tech-savvy gamers.
The managing director of the GiiUp Australian start-up, Michael Castleman, is based in the Southern Highlands.
Castleman said the recreational gaming app promised to revolutionise online betting and breathe new life into Australia's horse racing industry.
"Attendance at horse races and year-round interest in the sport is dwindling, but GiiUp allows new generations of tech-savvy, app-happy Australians to discover the thrill of social betting on the races but without the pain of losing," he said.
"We believe the app will appeal to younger adults aged 25 to 35, especially women, who can use the app to have a fun flutter with friends.
"GiiUp also helps bring the time-honoured sport of horse racing into the digital age.
"Thousands of people have already downloaded the free app and are enjoying this fresh and contemporary way to enjoy a day at the races anywhere."
The innovative gaming app is available for free on iPhones, Androids and the web.
It enables Australians to have a flutter on thousands of real horse, harness and greyhound races across Australia with pretend money and can be used anywhere, with animated versions of the race displayed 10 minutes after the event.
The app is pitched at novice social punters new to racing, particularly women, but also providing an extra dimension for seasoned betters.
GiiUp offers a fun, safe, easy and user-friendly way to enjoy the thrill of horse racing.
