Featured in Coffee Culture Cafe (below the Empire Cinema Bowral) the exhibition explores various animal forms using simple shapes, vibrant, intense colours and environmental concerns.
Julie said her inspiration was drawn from Franz Marc's 1910-1912 series of colourful artworks, which focused on the animal in its natural setting and habitat, innocent and in harmony with nature.
"The paintings are whimsical and vibrant, but have an environmental edge which draws attention to the subject of man encroaching on the animal's environment," she said.
"Some of my paintings show buildings and roadways edging further and further into their once uninhabited territory, but are devoid of human form.
"Simple animal shapes, luminous colours and a variety of formats are juxtaposed with contrasting disordered buildings and discontinuous roadways."
"Other paintings in the exhibition have continued with the whimsical and vibrant technique but focus on the animal in isolation, keeping the background minimal and employing the viewer to feel empathy for the animal."
Julie's solo exhibition opens this Friday, November 28 from 6.30pm to 8pm at Coffee Culture Caf , Bowral and will show until January.
