It is the first time Spong has received the honour.
Spong has had a stellar year, winning the club championships at Bowral and taking out the district and zone events.
His good mate, Mick Armstrong from Bowral, was named runner-up for player of the year.
Spong and Armstrong said everything went well for them this year. The pair won many events and both enjoyed a very long 12 months on the greens.
The only disappointment they have had was not being successful in winning a pennant for Bowral.
Spong and Armstrong hope this will be changed next year.
Bowral officials are eagerly waiting for both men to commit themselves to the next pennant season as many clubs are opening up offers to them.
Southern Tablelands has just completed a match against South Coast at Ulladulla.
Captain Armstrong led his team of Spong, Stephen Della and Chris Tindall to a 23-11 win.
