Bowral locals Margaret and Hurtle Ford celebrated their diamond anniversary with a quiet family gathering earlier this month, 60 years to the day since their wedding on November 6, 1954.
Margaret Alice Bartholomew was 24 years old when she married Hurtle Milton Ford in Bowral, bringing two local families together.
Margaret's youngest sister Hazel was pleased to be flower girl at the wedding, and to be able to celebrate her sister's anniversary so many years on.
"We had a big family, we had four brothers and there are three of us girls, so the wedding was a very family centred day.
"Mum made the dresses."
The anniversary celebration was organised by the couple's son Ian, and Margaret's sister Jean Woodman, at the family home in Park Road, Bowral, where Margaret and Hurtle have lived all 60 years of their marriage.
"I think what makes it work is that they're very rarely away from each other," Hazel said.
"They're number one with each other, always."
"It's only when one or the other's been in hospital is the only time they're away from each other."
"Hurtle was in hospital recently in Sydney and Margaret wanted to go and see him every day, and he's the same if she's not well."
Hurtle and Margaret were thrilled to receive cards and greetings from Her Majesty the Queen, the Governor General, the Governor of NSW, the Prime Minister, Federal and State representatives, the Mayor of Wingecarribee and many other family and friends to recognise their special wedding anniversary.
