The Illawarra and Shoalhaven region, which includes the Wingecarribee shire, has been declared a ‘very high’ risk area.
The ban comes into effect from Sunday, November 23, which means that no fires may be lit in the open and all fire permits are suspended.
Gas and electric barbeques may be lit providing they meet certain conditions.
The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) advises that:
Well prepared homes that are actively defended can provide safety during a fire
Follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan and remain vigilant
