Thursday night's opening performance was near sold out and the response so far has been positive.
This extraordinary piece of theatre, both entertaining and malevolent, is far from Highlanders’ usual experience of theatre.
Leaving tradition behind, this innovative play requires a different actor to appear in each performance.
The actor receives instructions about the play about 24 hours out from the performance.
They do not see the script until it is handed over on stage; there is no set or rehearsal and no director to give any guidance or protection.
CMS Productions producer Clare Macarthur-Stanham said this piece came to her attention on YouTube and within hours she was emailing the original agents in Germany.
“I had to research and find more about it,” she said.
“It leapt off the page, it was just extraordinary.”
The play is by Nassim Soleimanpour and includes themes of censorship, compliance, manipulation and control.
The show took the Edinburgh Festival by storm in 2011 and has subsequently been performed all over the world.
“I’ve seen it twice now, once in Canberra and once in the UK, and it’s always such a different experience,” said Clare.
Inevitably there are different outcomes at different performances. The show asks as many questions as it answers and is a challenging experience for the actors.
“We have four local actors and one from Sydney.
“I didn’t have to persuade them too much, it’s something completely different that stretches them.”
“I think there’s a bit of trepidation, but all of them said ‘Oh wow, oh yes’ to being involved.”
The play will be staged at an unused car sales showroom in Moss Vale.
“I wanted to find a venue that would make people ask why and how, and be taken by surprise.”
Tickets are $25 for evenings and $20 for matinees and are available at www.cmsproductions.com.au and www.trybooking.com/99637
The play will take place at the old "UTE" garage on Argyle Street, Moss Vale.
