HE’S a big man taking big steps on the basketball court.
Former Highlander Andrew Storey is starring for Glebe Magic in the 2014 GMP Ultimate Basketball League.
The UBL was launched by the Parramatta Basketball Association last year.
The league is contested over summer and is one of the richest basketball competitions in NSW.
There is a major prize of $10,000 up for grabs for the overall winners.
Storey, 23, stands at just over 200 centimetres tall and plays centre for the Magic.
Glebe sits in top spot on the UBL ladder with eight victories from nine starts.
Last weekend, Storey was one of the standouts, scoring 15 points as Glebe recorded a 81-77 win over South Thunder.
Storey, who now lives in Sydney, is leading the league for rebounds and defensive blocks.
He said he was enjoying the opportunity to compete in the UBL.
“It’s a good competition - it’s of a pretty high standard,” Storey said.
“I’m playing among the best players in Sydney.”
Storey is enjoying his third season with the Magic, his first in the senior grade.
In 2012, he played for club’s Youth League team, before moving up to State League last year.
However, Storey is a latecomer to the sport.
He represented the Moss Vale Magic Basketball Association at 20 years of age, before moving up to Glebe.
“I had played in high school but it wasn’t serious – it was only to fill in time.”
"It's a good competition... I'm playing among the best players in Sydney."

UBL games are held on a weekly basis and the Magic trains one day per week.
In between, Storey tries his hand in games at a local level.
Storey said he enjoyed playing centre.
“I’m the biggest guy on the court,” he said.
“I need a different skills set.
“I (also) don’t have to shoot a lot of jump shots, which I’m not that good at.”
The Magic has a bye this weekend, but will return to the court on November 29 to face Obilic.
Under the guidance of coach Rob Murphy, Storey said Glebe aimed to “stay up the top” for the remainder of the season.
Storey said he also wanted to continue his good form.
“I want to keep that up, and put more points on the board.
“It will help get my name out there,” he said.
