A Garden and Plant Fair will be held on November 16 at the Harper's property in Wilkinson Street, Berrima, just off the Old Hume Highway.
It is the first time the fair has been held for some years and it has attracted more than 25 growers as well as exhibitors of garden sculptures, tools and other garden materials.
Also on sale at bargain prices will be a wide selection of pre-loved gardening books, many donated from some of the district's best gardeners from their own collections.
It will also be an opportunity for people looking for rare and beautiful plants to buy plants propagated from the Harper's two acre garden as well as by the Friends of the Botanic Gardens, which is gaining a reputation for growing rare and interesting plant specimens.
Demonstrations on how to make garden features from tree cuttings are another feature of the day.
During the day the new heritage rose garden at Harper's will be officially opened. The garden was created some years ago and is now in full bloom.
It features some roses descended from some of the earliest roses brought to the colony of NSW.
The gates open at 10am and visitors can also inspect the 1830s Georgian style townhouse, explore the garden and get lost in the maze, which is one of the finest in NSW.
There will be activities for the children, including face painting.
All proceeds from the fair go to the upkeep and management of Harper's, which is managed by a team of local volunteers.
A marquee has been set up for the guest speakers including well known Highlands landscaper Charlotte Webb who will give a talk about her passion for rare and unusual plants, discussing breeding and propagating plants and their use in perennial borders.
Heritage rose specialist Sue Kingsford, from the Roses and Friends Nursery at Fitzroy Falls will talk about roses and their use.
With so much to do and see, people can take a break with a delicious Devonshire tea, or stay for lunch and enjoy the sausage sizzle.
Entry to the house and garden is $5 (free for school children).
Entry to the maze is $2 per person (including children).
